This is the flower that I am named after.
The name, "gentian", is derived from "Gentius",
a King of Illyria who, according to the on-line Botanical Dictionary,
"found the herb to have a healing effect on his malaria-stricken
troops".

We've had him for about 2 years, and he is doing great. I now ride him for lessons, and have lots of fun with him.
